Wisdom tooth removal in Rotterdam

Wisdom teeth are the back molars in your mouth and can be more difficult to keep clean. This increases the risk of cavities (caries) and infections, which can lead to pain.

In many cases, removing the wisdom tooth is the best solution. Sometimes a wisdom tooth is removed preventively, for example if it is growing in at an angle or affects the bite. At mydent, hét mondzorgcentrum Rotterdam we can almost always remove wisdom teeth ourselves. In some cases, we refer you to an oral surgeon.

Pain from a wisdom tooth: what to do?

Tooth or molar extractions

Persistent toothache or molar pain

Ongoing tooth pain can be very disruptive: it can affect your concentration and make sleeping difficult. Pain may appear suddenly or build up gradually, and it often worsens when eating or drinking hot or cold foods.

It’s important to find the cause of the pain quickly and treat it as soon as possible. If the tooth can still be saved, your dentist can place a white composite filling to stop the pain.

Pain relief for toothache or after extraction

If you have toothache caused by an infection, you can take anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or diclofenac.

  • Diclofenac is stronger but can interact with other medications. Always check with your pharmacist before taking it.
  • Avoid aspirin after an extraction, as it is a blood thinner and may slow the healing process.
